When I bought my 4200 in September 2009, I was recommended by many of the forum members to have an independent inspection carried out (which I commissioned by RAC).
This did throw up several issues which I was assured would be attended to by the Independent Maserati Dealer from whom I was buying the car. This information was fed back to them by the RAC inspector and by myself (further reinforced with a copy of my report – sent to them).
On collecting the car I was assured by the dealer that everything had been corrected.

A month or so later, for my own peace of mind, I had the car serviced (not strictly necessary on mileage terms, but it was almost due date-wise).
Imagine my surprise when I was faced with having to rectify these same issues at my cost.
In the six weeks since then I have been desperately trying to gain some sense from the selling dealer regarding some help towards the costs I have incurred; but it won’t surprise anyone that they refuse to help – other than a very small ‘goodwill’ gesture.

The moral of this tale is for anyone about to buy a car and have the inspection carried out; MAKE SURE THE DEALER DOES WHAT THEY SHOULD DO – I, erroneously, trusted them!

For reasons of ‘naming & shaming’ on the forum, I am not disclosing the dealers name.
What I will say however is that I bought the car 100+ miles from home and getting there to follow up would have been arduous so recommend buying close to home if possible.
Also do read the Warranty details as all the issues were not covered by the warranty company who were unable to help me either.
I like to play fair too; so accept that the dealer just may feel justified in acting the way they have but can only paint the picture from my perspective.

I investigated the route via my solicitor as the case was pretty conclusively ‘cast iron’. But like most, I didn’t follow up having balanced unknown cost implications with possible benefits.

The knight in shining armour came in the shape of Emblem Sports Cars who are only 3 miles from my home and who carried out the fullest and most comprehensive service; supported by knowledgeable people. Excellent.

I must also point out that we are very fortunate to have BIRDCAGE as our site administrator.
I have consulted him throughout whilst compiling this article.
His intervention with all parties has been admirable and I offer him my thanks for his support and fair-play to all parties.

Now the fuss is over I can begin to really enjoy the car.

I guess you could let people know who the dealer is if they PM you?

I also looked back at your earlier posts to see if you mentioned where you bought the car from. It came as no surprise to see who the dealer is, especially as I am aware of at least 3 other forum members who have experienced the same sort of thing from them. When I bought my car a few years ago this outfit was highly recommended by many others; it would appear that their service and attitude towards customers has changed somewhat since then!

I know there is always two sides to a story ,   but its always the same old Name  that keeps cropping up    time and time and time and time again    and the law of averages  says no smoke without fire         surely if  there allowed to carry on advertising on here            its as   if the site is  sanctioning  what they are  allowed to get away with ,           its just not cricket   or fair to future buyers

Markp4200.....

Maybe because you feel you've gotten this all over, that you don't want to endlessly harp on about it!?

But, if you care to list what was wrong, what was agreed to put right, why wasn't the failure to fix same not noticed on final hand over (sorry to ask this question!)

Finally, what did it cost you to put right and how little did they offer you as a fob off?

Let us know if you intend to pursue further.

Painful times, sorry to hear of your troubles.

Parisien et al.
If you could drop me a PM, I'll let you know the points raised and my anxieties that it wasn't handled fairly (in my opinion).
I have to recognise that there are two sides to every story and so accept that too.
But being left holding a sick baby wasn't too nice.
I can let you know just how much it cost me.

The car is now a sweet joy and I have fallen in love!
Perhaps it's a case of finding a car which is mortal and has a soul!
My previous cars have been new and whilst not soul-less; I sometimes wish they could have had failings so that I could engage more with them.
Does this make me a masochist?

Sorry to keep repeating myself, but for the very few that dont know, I bought my car from these people last January for £25k + another £2k for a 2 year Warranty. Found it was crash damaged, confronted the dealer who denied they had knowledge of the damage (My arse they didnt know) then offered to buy it back off me for £19k!! In the end I sold it privately for £19k! So I lost £8000 in the six months of ownership. This is not including the numerous 200 mile round trips I had to make to get the car back to them to fix the numerous other faults that it had!

Did they even have a clue how to repair the car? They may "sell" a certain brand but do they actually know anything about them? Do they possess a SD3 for starters?

sjn,
Remember that the seller doesn't neccesarily do the 'fixes' but use an independent workshop 'at the back' to do the work.
Therefore they are relying on someone else to do the work.
In some instances, this is not done and everyone loses out; mostly the customer.

My experience is that this particular dealer knew little about the marque's finer details and build.

ADG dont fix cars they just  forecourt prep them and sell them , most   mechanical issues tend to be sorted out by Giallo , a previously well respected independant specialist  who conveniently is next door ,  ,

What one must understand in the realms of fairness , i imagine   that any list of  repairs/health checks  apertaining to a particular car given by ADG to Giallo is subject to budgetry constraints ,   hence this is probably where the problem  begins , they are both in business primarily to make as much profit as possible and hence  corner cutting  takes place ,   (these aren;t cars to cut corners with) which has caused some flack to fall upon  Giallo , Mathew  is very competent  and has had some good recommendations on here ,  but he unfortunately  has allowed himself to become tied up  too strongly with ADG   and  for what ever reason doing poor  temporary fixes thus   to a degree getting tarred with the same brush ,

Working and servicing on customers cars most of the time there aren't any budgetry constraints  and his work is usually very good  , many on here sing his praises ,  its his laison with ADG  where the grey area becomes most commonly  apparent ,   Just beware and have your eyes wide open .

Due to the low volumes many techs may see a particular fault once in a blue moon. I know that even the main dealers have problems fixing things and commonly they diagnose faults by simply swapping parts with a donor car(typically another car that they have on stock) until things work again.

Beg to differ  re Alistairs knowledge Mark   he knows his Massers very well and knows exactly what he's doing        which plainly  actually makes things worse in your case ,  naivety is something he cant use as an excuse
