Hi all,
Ive just got the insurance on my newly purchased 04 Quattroporte, and thought I would throw my quote into the forum to ask whether the rest of you consider it a good quote (or not).

I already insure my classic 5Ltr V8 Scimitar Coupe with RH Specialist Insurance, and got that down to £98.70 with agreed value and 8000 limited miles.... pretty good I think you would agree. So I thought I would enquire about the QP.... and they gave me a price of £522 fully comp, limited to 5000 miles pa, £250 excess and no quibbles about whether it had a tracker or not. I got a bit of a discount as I am already a customer, but it seems good value to me.

So what do you all say! Is this a good price, or could I have found something cheaper elsewhere?

Hi Duncan,
I think that's a great price,
Don't know why I didn't go to RH myself...
I have been a customer for many years and currently have 2 classics insured with them, never mind!
As a comparison, I paid £695 with RSA (through Michael Ward) for my '04 QP, £500 excess, limited to 10000 miles pa, I do have a couple of modifications which I think pushed up my premium by about £100.
Regards,
Enzo.

Hi Chris,
I was told I needed a Thatcham approved alarm when I tried you guys recently,
and as no Maseratis appear on the list, I was unable to take you up on your quote.
has the situation changed? not that I will change my insurance now, just be good to know for the future.
Regards,
Enzo.

It all comes down to individual circumstances, some insurers do them now with factory fitted options, but most still prefer Thatcham security.

I'll let you know if things change!

Regards

Chris

Guessing by the lack of comments on my post, it seems that Ive got a good price on my insurance.... and maybe the rest of you are embarrased to post up your own quotes!!!
Anyway, Im a happy bunny.... now just to find the money for the next annual service, and possibly new brake pads all round... ahhh well, the price of individuality cannot be measured.

Happy motoring all

Would love to get it lower, but i think my age and location are against me!

Well noor, I think my jaw would hit the floor if I got quoted £1200 notes for my insurance. You must be quite young and realy live on the wrong side of town for your quote to be quite so high.
Im only 44 and live in a reasonable post code area (AL5).... I guess I realy did get a good deal

Scot,

im so used to paying these extortionate amounts that my jaw has stopped hitting the floor...

To be fair, this is significantly cheaper than my previous car (Alpina B3)!!!!!

Im 29, that doesnt help and living in a BL postcode even more so. So much insurance fruad has happened in this area over the past years that insurance is a nightmare.

Sorry to hear that noor.... it seems that your postcode is the most relevant thing insurance companies look at when handing out quotes, regardless of your own driving history etc etc. Maybe next time your renewal comes round you can try some of the more specialist companies.... and go onto a limited mileage policy if you dont need the car for business useage, and off course having it tucked up in a secure garage makes a big difference.

Interesting you mentioned being in a garage helps... unless you are with Elephant. I switched policies mid-term from my 05 Renault Grand Espace to an 04 4200, increase in premium was a reasonable 120 or so. I then remembered that the Espace was listed as kept on drive so I advised that the 4200 would be in the garage, guess what - 3 quid more to pay!!! No chance of a sensible discussion and to make it worse if I went for the keep it on the drive option I was told that if I then kept it in the garage I wouldn't be covered if stolen/damaged etc while in the garage. Now, I don't really believe much of what was said but just goes to show how a decent broker/insurance co can help compared to an off-shore call centre where they follow a script and can't even appreciate the surreal nature of the conversation they are having!

Stylo,

You are soo right! My car is registered as kept on the street, there was absolutely no difference with elephant for keeping the car in the garage, on the drive or on the street!!

Time to drop the dead elephant I think guys, mainstream companies dont have the first idea about insuring cars like ours.... try a specialist next time

Jayson, give Denrick at Michael Ward Associates a call.

Re the comments on the garage versus drive, I've never seen a significant difference for the car being in a garage or on a drive.  As a reuslt, I always say drive and have been told that if its in the garage occasionally, it makes no odds re a claim.
