Had the QP for just over 6 months and is my daily driver......

Thought i would treat her to some TLC

FD Brake Pads
FD Rear Wheel Spacers
Denso Iridium Spark Plugs
FD ECM
FD DBW

Pads, Spacers and Plugs have gone on this week

ECM and DBW should go on next week.

I will update my impressions of each of the mods, once installed and have had some seat time!

Well the spacers, Pads and Plugs have gone in...

Spacers - Car looks so much better at the back end and the spacers really help fill out the arches.  I had only gone for the spacers as a purely cosmetic mod but there does seem to be a small tangible difference in handling aswell.  Car now seems to feel more balanced around long high speed bends and less nervous.

Pads - Definately an improvement on the factory pads, pedal feels firmer and seems to bite better, they cost less then factory aswell.

Plugs - my car is 3 and Half years old so just wanted to change the plugs, didnt fancy driving with very old plugs even though they are said to last longer.  My tech was very impressed with plugs and it seems to have removed a little hunting at idle that i had previously.

Waxoyl - Haveing been told by a few people that Masers and Fezzas rust easily from underneath, especially as mine is not in a garage. I decided to get her treated and waxoyled. It took loads of the stuff and was a real PITA for my tech! Hopefully it will keep the rust at bay, and let me continue to enjoy her for amny years to come!

DBW and ECM will hopefully go on next..

Oh yeah have manged to get hold of a Tubi, that should be installed on friday, let hope its not too loud with the factory x-pipe?

Thanks

Noor

Well the tubi went on yesterday....

Absolutely love it, combined with the factory xpipe, I've got a lovely low, deep sounds which progressively gets louder with revs! I personally think the deep sounds suits the qp really well and just like how it shouldve sounded from the factory.

Around town, its lovely, pops and bangs when pushing hard, or gives a subtle growl when driving sedately, giving you a hint of an idea of what is waiting to be unleashed.

On the motorway, at 3000rpm, its a little louder than stock, not overly so but a touch louder. I had concerns of it being too loud on the mway, but so far its seems to be acceptable.

The dbw and ecm will go on next week hopefully...

Haveing second thoughts of fitting the ecm now though, as ive heard that the ecm has been programmed to remove all the pops and bags!  And i seem to be addicted to the pops and bangs from the tubi!

Lets see....................

Any opinions?

Well finally got te ECM and DBW installed by Mike Roberts for Roberts Aerospace last week. (top man, well recommended)

Just brilliant, that all I can say:

The DBW takes care of the bottom end, instant clutch engagement and very little slippage from a dead start. and the shifts are so much quicker and smoother.  there no bhp or torque gains from the DBW but it gives the impression there is due to the instant engagement of the clutch etc.

The ECM takes over where the DBW stoppes doing its work, above 3000rpm the car jus pulls and pulls, previously where i was downshifting from 6th gear on the motorway to overtake e.t.c, now i dont have to that, the increase in torqu and BHP lets me continue without the need to drop a cog.

Just done a 200 mile journey and my fuel consumptions seems to have decreased, this has also been noted by a few people on maseratilife.  I will do some brim to brim comparisons to get a accurate figure but just from the fuel gauge i do see an improvement.

What sort of MPG figures are you getting after the mods on your QP noor? I'll be interested to see how it stacks up against my standard 04 QP

Happy motoring all...

scot,

In terms of MPG difference, i would say that from all the mods only the ECM will make a difference to this.

Ive not done any brim to brim testing so cant say for definate, but i am consistenly seeing an improvement on the fuel guage on my regular trip from manchester to swindon.

what figures are you getting?

Well noor, I'll still be interested in your full tank figures when you do them, as for me.... the best I ever achieved was a magnificent 25.1mpg on a recent trip to Edinburgh, probably due to the amount of average speed camaras on a lot of the trip up there. Normal long distance travelling seems to return me about 21-22 mpg and thats still doing streches at 80ish mph

Just to keep you updated, did a journey today from Manchester to Swindon, approximately 170 miles, driving between 0.75 leptons and 0.80 leptons and according to the trip i was getting just over 25 MPG.

Forgot about the brim to brim test, so that will have to wait till the end of the week.

Thanks

Sounds like your getting similar mpg figures as I do noor.... so maybe its all down to driving style. Im quite surprised, because when I first asked around for QP mpg figures... people were telling me to expect mid teens (or less). So all in all Im pretty happy with my MPG.

Scot i agree only get teens when i do alot of local mileage.

Im always one for experimenting so i think ill get Jeff from FD to but a 'Economy' map on the ECM for me and see how it works out.  Dont worry, the ECM has 2 modes so one will be economy and the other will be mapped for maximum power with 98 Ron petro!!!!!!

Thanks

Noor

I try never to use the QP for short or town journeys, cause lets face it..... a QP with DS is a pig to drive in stop start traffic. p.s. see you a Stanford Hall on sunday!

I dont think its such a problem in stop start traffic, i try not to ride the clutch too much and wait for a decent gap to open up, but i dont find it a huge pain, regularly get stuck in traffic on the M6, i might be due to mine being a Sport GT and haveing the faster box, which engages the gears quicker and also down to the DBW which makes it quicker still.

Stanford Hall - Trying to do my best to get out of going to friends wedding, as i really want to go to this one!

Had the Larini Sports Cats fitted this week, and they are just sensational.  the sound is just great, loud enough to raise the hairs on the back of the necjk but not loud in a way that it would drone or give you a headache.
