Was out for an evening on Thursday with some friends and took another opportunity to drive. As on a previous post I located the best place to park well away from the crowd but and this is a big but, slightly under a tree. Arrived home late and put her away in the garage. Got it out today after 36 hours and there to my amazement was a huge, no massive, no mountain of birds cr@p trying to compete with the Maserati badge in the centre of the bonnent. That thing must of been saving it for days waiting for me. How did I miss it when I put the her away I'll never know and no way had a bird with a gut that size been able to get into the garage.
With the bucket, sponge and ample car wash I went to work soaking and washing it off. 15 minutes later there underneath was a pitted and stained paintwork mark about 2" in diameter. After 36 hours! What had that thing been eating?
I've had it on other cars before with no issues and certainly it was longer than 36 hours. I'm wondering if it could have reacted with the Mur polish that is still quite fresh on the bodywork.
Another lesson learnt, not only for parking positions but to inspect the bodywork before putting it away.

Any experts out there that can advise me how to remove the mark with the least amount of damage?

Klive,

Use a Auto Clay with some quick detailer fluid to remove any marks, do not use a cutting agent as it may thin the paint too much.

A few coats of a good quality wax may hide the blemish, but if the paint is damaged you will always have the scar unless you have profesional help.

I have used this company in the past, they were very good at bringing my car back to showroom condition despite years of neglect by previous owners.

Learned some time ago that bird "lime" can etch your paintwork in a matter of hours!
If you do spot the stuff on your paint try this:

Try something like Mequiars ScratchX on the area, this should remove the unsightly mark.

Klay/Clay will not have any effect on the damage as this only removes contaminants in the paint.

I've tried the clay and got some improvements but the mark is still clear. I'll try the scratchX at the weekend as she's currently in Colchester having some warranty work done.
I've already got the Supaguard Bird Lime Neutraliser, it came with the weekday car, but it was just too late the damage was already done. Now I will walk around the car before putting it away, even if it's the middle of the night when our pesky feathered friends should be sleeping.

I'm looking at having protective film fitted to the front of the car as the stone chips are starting to build up now. I am aware that removing the front bumper is a big job if I wanted it painted and I have yet to see any remedial paint repairs that match 100% to the rest of the car if they mask.

I'm not sure if it would cover the damage you have but it may be an option and you get stone chip protection too.

Has anyone had these films fitted and what was their view of the results?

With regards to the front bumper, my local paint guy has done my twice, due to stone chips. He charges £250 to do the job, and that is with removing the front bumper. The first time he did it (Nutello) the paint match was not good, as he went by the paint library and mixed it himself. The second time, he took it to someone who uses a densitometer which read the paint particles and gives you a recipe which you then mix, and that match was perfect!

Now here's a thing. After being away from the car for 2 weeks and a brief wash by the garage the remaining mark has virtually faded.
