Guys,

After reading much information from the site on this problem, so far I have replaced the (i) crankshaft sensor (ii) fan resistor (iii) new battery, but the problem persists. When the engine is hot when starting, the engine cooling fan will come on when the key is at MAR position. I need to wait for the fan to go off before I can start the car and this can take 5 minutes or more.

Really annoying especially when you are refilling at a petrol station blcoking those behind you.

Any solutions ? Thanks in advance.

William

Although the crankshaft sensor  has been replaced , have you checked gap is within tolerance  ( 0.6 mm approx)  ?

May be worth changing the Carbon filter and checking the operation of the Lambda Sensor and Camshaft Sensors ??

The cooling fan being on should have no effect on your ability to start? the fans do run at odd times its Italian! are you sure its not the immobiliser cutting in? if you attempt a start with the immobiliser engaged (or is it the alarm on?) it shuts you out for 60 or 90 seconds? After you have filled up with fuel do you lock and unlock the car before trying to start it? it wont just start once its been switched off for like 90 seconds or some thing. it will turn over but wont go.

Thanks Guys - she starts not first time but second time even if engine is cool. Will get the mechanic to check the gap of the crank sensor which I think is the problem. Thanks and will report back hopefully with good news.

Guys,

It turns out that there was a leak at the fuel regulator and hence insufficient pressure when starting. Got that replaced. It seems fine - fingers crossed.
