Hi, I have a nearly new Quattroporte and it may have a noisy tappet.  It is coming from the driver’s side and is most noticeable from behind the instrument cluster.  The tappet noise does increase with the engine speed, but sometimes fastens up on the over-run which is strange.  The majority of the time the noise is apparent but other times it seems to disappear.  When the noise does return, it can also be heard from the drivers side grill on the front wing, but sounds as if it is coming from the bottom half of the engine so it leads me to believe if the noise really is a tappet??  The car has just recently been serviced.  Has anyone had a similar experienced with the 4200 engine??

Regards, Phil.

Can't really help but I should get that one checked out quite quickly. I've not heard of the problem on a Maser before and it is a Ferrari engine but if the tappet is running dry of oil it could get expensive! Watch the oil pressure and temperature closely and get it to a service agent soon!
