Chaps,

I'm in a position to start looking at 3200 and 4200 with a bit more purpose.  Out of interest, I started looking at insurance quotes last night.  I got a quote from Heritage, on a 3200, for over 8000gbp!

I put this down to my driving conviction history, but I was sorely surprised to see it as high as that.  Can anyone suggest any insurars that are worth looking at? I'd rather start with some recommendations, than just ring around everyone I can find.

fwiw, my driving convictions in the last 5 years are:
SP30 : 78 in a 70 (Gatso which was obscured by a convoy of lorries until it was too late  ).
CU80 : using a mobile (while stationary in a traffic jam)
MS90 : Technically : "Refusing to give the identify of the driver" : In reality, receiving a NIP for doing 48 in a 40 (as I was leaving a village into an NSL), and as I was working away from home, by the time I got home, sorted out the paperwork and posted it the response to the NIP arrived a day late, and so I didn't respond within the requisite time.  ergo, I did not provide the identify of the driver.

The last two were both Oxfordshire.. they seem rather keen down there imho.

So anyway..  any recommendations?

MWA are worth a call - they're a site sponsor. I dealt with Denrick.

I'm with A-Plan for my 3200, but have just had a much better quote than my renewal - from Bridle Insurance. Very helpful too.

I called A-plan this morning, and was promised someone would call me back very shortly.  I had no callback.

I'll check out MWA and Brindle and see if they are any better

Denrick at MWA has been very helpful.  He'll get back to me tomorrow with any potential options.  If they can get me something I like, I might well throw my commercial insurance their way too.

Den at MWA got back to me with some quotes. Best I could get was 2500, which is just a bit too much of a chunk out of the annual budget I've set aside for running a maser at the moment. I think I'll wait until some of my points have dropped off the end, and try again next year. Who knows.. maybe I'll be able to afford a gransport rather than a 4200 by then :) In the meantime, I'll just lurk in here...

Thats a shame.  He worked pretty hard for me and I liked the lad.  Glad you tried him!

Oh he worked hard for me too.. Just a shame that the points make it prohibitively expensive.  Once I've fewer points I'll most likely go back to him.  I'll be quite likely to use them for my commercial insurance based on my experiences so far.

Denrick couldnt help me, and Bridle's insurance didnt cover had a couple of clauses I wasn't keen on. A Plan went back to the underwriters and dropped their margin and came in at a price I was happy with - not the cheapest, but not too far off and they are always really helpful.

And to think, hands free kit come free with all mobile phones. Lesson learnt here is NEVER use a mobile whilst driving, even stuck in a jam (park and remove keys from ignition is the advice I've been given) .  #

Or speed and not be on the lookout!!

I've not seen a handsfree kit supplied with a phone for years. Also, a wired hands-free kit doesn't get out off, you'll still be done. Only a wireless one, either bluetooth or integrated into the car will be acceptable.

As it happens, the only reason I had the phone to my ear was that the battery in my bluetooth headset had died, and I was telling the caller that I'd call him back.  That, combined with being stuck in traffic seemed a pretty innocent usage, but it is still technically breaking the law.
