Just wanted to say what a useful site this is.
I went looking for some oil today (don't need it yet but just to be ready) with the manual in hand to ensure I got the correct type and realised that apart from some small independents there is very little choice locally. Started with Halfords and found that the vast majority that they had on offer was their own brand. It maybe good but it's not worth the risk. Tried the independents but they offered a similar range to Halfords or a low cost alternative. So came home, did a search on the site and there were many recommendations for Shell Helix and advice that this is used by the dealers. So it's off to the Shell garage tomorrow on the way home from Goodwood.
Keep the good advice and debates coming.

A point to note. I've got a friend in the motoring trade and after proving this to Halfords he got a trade discount card.

Hi Klive,

Shell Helix is used by dealers because Ferrari have a deal with Shell. However it's a 10/40 oil, while Maserati engines are built to run on 10/60. Use Selenia, or at a push Castrol GTX, also 10/60. Not many people sell it but it's worth getting, the difference in performance is audible!

Try Mike Roberts at Roberts Aerospace, he supplies it with a service and might be able to mail you some.

That is true for the 3200, never use anything but 10/60, but i think the 4200 should be a 10/40

Thanks guys. I have a 4200 CC and according to the manual it actually uses 5/40. I picked up a top up bottle on Sunday and checked the oil level that evening. It's still at maximum after my first 2000 miles in it which is quite pleasing.
I've been keeping a close eye on the gauges and see the oil pressure dropping off at low revs when the engines hot and sitting in traffic and at 44k miles was expecting some wear and hence oil usage, but I'm pleased that this isn't the case.
