Hi All,

Happy New Year, Christmas and all those things etc etc etc...

Just a quick question for all the 3200 gods around. My 2001 3200GT is due to have its timing belt done any week soon as it has just clocked 60,000kms and the last belts were at 43,000kms and 21,000kms. My local Italian car service centre here in Aus (not the mainline dealer) has suggested that they change a water pump at the same time? Can anyone comment on if this is worthwile being that the car is in the shop anyway? I have no issues with the waterpump to my knowledge. They are only doing a belt chance as I had only done all the oils, filters, tyres, plugs about 1500kms ago and I dont have the experience nor the time to tackle a belt so I will leave for them to do.

Your comments would be appreciated..

Also does anyone have any idea why the Hazard Lights come on every time a door gets opened with the engine running or the car turned off? Would this be an alarm/immobiliser problem as I have recently had some issues fixing a stiff passenger side door lock which wasn't unlocking without assistance. Did all 3200GTs come standard with alarms or just immobilisers? I have never heard a noise from mine.

Warm Regards,

Dave

I understand that most water pumps are driven off the cam belt and as they are in tension removal and re-fitting can put strain on them. Having said that I am only aware of 1 W/P failer

Hi, In my oppinion its like buying some types of insurance, you don't have to buy them but you will sleep alot better if you do.
It is possible for the water pump bearing to go stiff, even seize, then the belt would shorely snap(Ouch)
I Will be looking into mine when my belt is due. Happy Motoring
Mark.

Hi, I am a 3200GT owner for just 3 months. Happy with it but from this post seems we need to replace the time belts every 20,000KM? Much faster than I expected, any comments and advise? Mine is over 110,000km.

Hi Dave

Changing the water pump is just a precaution as  when changing the Belts you have access to the Pump. Mine was done at the same time 48k miles as the pump showed signs of weeping, but its up to you. Pumps are expensive around £350, but if it goes before the next belt change it could save you that in labour.

Belts should be changed at 32k miles or every 3 years which ever comes sooner.
