ORIGINAL: emperor Here ppl have the idea that Maseratis are 500KW beasts that will eat anything on the road. When I tell them its 287KW.. every single one has replied "**** off.. my Ford is quicker than that" What a silly statement. You could use the same misguided argument to justify modifying the 640 bhp engine in a Mc F1. You have an unfortunate way with expressing yourself that comes across as a Troll - If you know better, why post here asking for advice? What you appear to have difficulty understanding is that BHP or KW alone does not mean that the car is "quicker", if the power increase is obtained by narrowing the power band and/or destroying mid range torque - A case in point was the F40 (475 bhp from 2.8 litres as standard) that was modified in Japan, IIRC, to produce in excess of 650bhp. This became undrivable as the power band was so narrow with massive power suddenly cutting in. Peter, some folk just want more power than the standard application and there is nothing wrong with that at all. Any engine can be turbocharged but the key question is, is this the best way of achieving maximum bang for bucks on a 4200 engine? Probably not. The mods will require a full engine rebuild (not cheap even with a standard build) with substantial changes to pistons / valve gear / timing / fuel system / management system and not least the transmission. The practical limit appears to be 550bhp using low boost Superchargers as Modena Tec have done but even this costs Euro 30,000. By contrast, their 3200 was modified to 610bhp @ Euro 49,000 !!! If the OP really needs bar room bragging cred, try a modifying a Nissan Skyline as Roberto Grimaldi friend did recently @ 1,200 bhp. Now that is real "kick-ass" but his wallet would suffer well in excess of Modena Tec prices. hope this helps
