Readers I would like to give you a warning about driving through Fords. I have a 2003 Cambiocorsa and recently came across a ford in the road. I stopped before I went through and checked depth. The level of water looked very shallow and was well below the first Marker on Depth Guage. I then drove very slowly through it and stopped dead in the middle of the ford abruptly. (Not deliberatly). Bottom line is that water got into the air intake and into one of the cylinders. Result new engine required!!!
So fellow owners please be careful. If anyone in UK has an engine I need one!

Sorry to hear your bad news, there are a couple of maserati engines on eBay. Good luck with finding one. Finally thanks for the info.

Very sorry to hear that you had this trouble.  This is certainly a known problem on the Maserati 3200 / 4200.  Unfortunately several owners have had a problem driving through any amount of standing water and even heavy flowing rain.  The air intake is sealed and quite low to the ground, water will enter the cylinders and cause a Hydrolock condition.  Here in the USA insurance will typically cover the repair (not sure about the UK), but obviously it's not a desirable situation.

Best of luck with the replacement.  If need be, we can also help source engines from the USA (we do ship worldwide).  However, I think you should be able to find a proper replacement in the UK.

Best Regards,
-- Jeff

Hi Guys,
Thanks very much for your replies. Very much appreciated.
Jeff would you mind quoting me a price, just in case I have no luck here?
Kind regards to you both,
Carl.

Sorry to hear that Carl. The air intake point is very low (lower n/s bumper opening) on these cars, so easy to suck in water I guess. Hopefully you get it sorted soon - the engines are otherwise very robust!

Hi

I did this in a minibus (not mine fortunately).  Though I was going a little too quick and the water was a bit too deep.  you must have been very unlucky.  Sorry to hear about you bad news!

That's what happened to mine at 39k miles. The engine rebuild cost £17k. Luckily it was before I owned it!
Like redonnylee says there's a few on ebay for under £4k. Good Luck!

@ Carl:  I'll need to match VIN #'s and all the rest but typically they are running 5-6.5K here in the US for a good low mileage (known) engine. Shipping could run $800-$1000 (but fuel pricing are changing shipping costs daily)

@ Simon: I don't believe that you'll run into this problem on the QP / GT models.  I also have not heard of this happening even once so far. (fingers crossed)

Best Regards,
-- Jeff
