Hi All
Earlier this year Malcolm, Simon and I joined the wet handling event run by the Alpina Register at Rockingham.

Fantastic fun was had by all as well as some real improvements to driving skills - certainly helped a lot at a wet maserati forum Llandow Track day a few weeks later.

It is now on again - 3rd October and I will be in attendance. Please let me know if you wish to join in, the cost is £125
Should be good fun, and maybe useful pre event prep for the track day at Goodwood on in November?
Details here:

It is most likely easiest if you book your slot via me.

No takers?
No better environment to learn the handling of your car and how to control it.

but seriously fellas, give this a go - there's no wear on the tyres at all, and it's an absolute riot getting your masser sideways - photos say it all....

What is required other than registering and turning up - specialist insurance? Helmets needed?

This might be a bit short notice but I definitely have an interest.

Nothing required other than to let me know you are coming, pay and turn up.
No helmets or safety gear required, just come and have a great time whilst learning something too.

There is nothing to hit at all, it is in the centre of Rockingham Race Circuit and I think is the only facility of it's kind open to the public.

Think of it as a big open area with no obstructions. Within that area there are three different surfaces
- very low grip (Basalt Tiles are extremely slippy (MU rating of 0.1) and it's effectively like driving on ice)
- low grip (performance surface effectively reduces the grip levels (down to a MU rating of 0.6), speeds at which traction is lost are much lower)
- high grip.

The very low grip part simulates what it is like to drive on ice, the low grip simulates what its like to drive on wet leaves and the high grip surface ensures you can safely stop should you leave either of the low grip surfaced areas.

Add a kick plate - a large metal sheet covered in high grip tarmac, which is computer controlled such that it can flick the rear of your car out just as you drive over it. This simulates a real-world skid situation and now its up to you to correct the skid.  Then add some obstacles - in this case walls made of water that are also computer controlled. The result is you have a realistic but safe environment to test your and your cars reactions.

Finally add a low grip crescent area to practice cornering, sprinkle some oversteer and you're into drift practice....

Had great fun at the GP this year a s a guest of Silverstone at the Porsche centre.

Porsche have built a track which has all of the above plus a handling track. Had a blast playing with someone else's 911 in all of the mixed conditions. Makes me wonder how the 3200 would react with all the extra torque - turbos kicking in and perhaps not the balance of the Porker. maybe I will try to get along.

Well another fantastic day was had by all.
I think it was better run this time than last time too.
First pic of the day (not taken by me) of K99 in his new and lovely GS:
