Just a bit of fun which started over on another thread, the question is
What was the first car you owned, and is it a case of the first love cuts deapest or a skeleton in your closet!

For me, my first car is a bit of a skeleton - Austin Allegro 1500 super, but worse of all it was turd brown! Owned it for about two years and it never let me down; amazingly. I also leant to drive and passed my test in it so maybe I secretly still admire my little Allegro.

Anyone better that?

1972 Marina Van...Resprayed it red and 're-upholstered' it with a mixture of brown shagpile carpet and acrylic fur. Stuck on a homemade fibreglass front spoiler and painted the tyre sidewalls white with dulux. Motorola 8 track stereo and a Sparkomatic graphic equaliser. It looked great.

A crappy 1.6 litre Citreon BX, cost about £300, it had a lever to make the suspension go up and down. That was fun for a couple of mins.

A brand new Peugeot 205 XR at the age of 18, cracking little thing and in the handling/ride stakes it would give some of todays hatches a run for their money. Sadly it was written-off after two weeks of ownership in a most spectacular collision with a large Subaru.

1968 HB Viva SL.

Passed my driving test, bought the car, got married, then took it on honeymoon. All within the space of two weeks, and a veeeery long time ago.

Some great cars in that list guys!! I think the prize vehicle so far has got to be the vastly under-rated modified pasion wagon that is the Marina van
However, from Citroen BX to Lamorghini takes some beating!
Keep them coming, I think the winner could still be lurking under cover somewhere....

I thought about extending this to ask, which car do you most regret selling / writting off... but that may open some wounds! But for me, I wish I still had my Lancia Integrale

Ford Fiesta 950 Pop+ in cream BVM 851Y...Had a little foot-pump for the window washer, and I fitted a 10 speaker radio cassette and front fogs + driving lights...then colour coded the mirrors and bumpers...god I was sad. Moved onto a Metro City D516 LNA in Moonraker Blue...ah memories...took my first real girlfriend to the lakes in it and got frisky on the fells...car got stuck and had to get a ruddy farmer to pull us out of Cartmel Fell...happy days.

Interestingly Marcello Gandini an Italian car designer designed both the Lamborghini Countache and Diablo, also several Maserati's including the Ghibli 2, and believe it or not the Citreon BX !.

My first car was/is my Mini, bought it as a 1 owner 44k mile carback in 2001 in absolutley immaculate condition when I was 16, passed my test, then drove it for a few years Spent god knows how much on it, probably too much then turned my interest to other cars, sort of forgot about it and neglected it for a while, then a few years back decided to get a full resto job done on it. I'd hate to think how much I've spent on it over the last couple of years.

Hopefully it's all been worth it, I know the sheer lunacy of skipping it down a B road a little too fast makes me giggle like mad, it's so addictive.

Old exhaust on this pic..

I can't beat the Marina van, but my first car was also a Marina - 1.8 coupe! I was 15 at the time and never drove it on the road   It was a hideous pile of cr@p which handled like a blancmange, but was quicker in a straight line than most of my mates 1.1/1.3 Escorts/Avengers etc. at the time.

Volvo 740 Estate. Built like a tank, with enough space to get 7 mates in. I remember clipping a wall while turning up a drive way ... the wall came off second best
