A brief note as to why trackdays are good for the environment, your health and the economy.

Environment
After Llandow I was all "Boy Racered" out. I was so calm that driving home with my normal very heavy right foot, the car returned over 24 mpg. I've never achieved that, I wouldn't normally have the patience!

Health
After a cooked breakfast, pie and chips for lunch and a sweet toothed dinner from a service station on the way home I lost weight!

The Economy
Perhaps only £65 each for hiring the track but we've also given the economy a boost by buying a lot of fuel and for me new tyres are now in order.

I took it very steady, as fast as I liked but only 10mins on track at a time once it had dried out. Tyres are still in great condition but I can feel a lot more travel in the brake pedal...

I do find I am driving the car very differently now, I know that is has so much more grip than I imagined and I can be quick with the gearbox when its warm. A great experience

Marcos,

The near side edge of my front tyres is shot after the event, and the rears are just legal...will need a new set v.soon. I only wish I had a spare set of rims as the old ones would still be ideal for the track but only if it was dry.

I had my rears replaced at the weekend and kept the old. The left is clearly illegal and the right is still good, but both would be fine for the next trip. At the moment I'm scanning the world to find some well priced wheels that could be used for a trackday. Had 1 recommended place give me a quote for 4 in excess of £900

Problem there is Keith, you have a spare set of wheels/tyres which are barely legal but ideal for track,   do you drive to the test track  and pile them inside the car all, over tha lovely leather,  have a towbar fitted to the masser and drag a trailer   or do you hire / buy/borrow a car trailer and tow the masser   dilemma eh

regards loz

Sorry but I have some concerns here!

If the tyre is illegal it is below it's wear indicators? and therefore if the track is wet....such as Llandow was in  the morning then your car/self/others present are at risk of an accident and as the wear increases at the risk of the cords and belts being exposed and weaknesses.................

Goodwood, for example, do check tyres and will not allow dry track tyres on track on a "public" trackday let alone worn road tyres and all tracks state in the small print it is the drivers responsibility that the car is road legal etc etc. A worn road tyre does not become a "slick"...except in the wet where it is useless!

We all suffered a fair amount of tyre wear at Llandow due to the very tight circuit...I reckon the wear was equivalent to about four trackdays at Goodwood although to be fair the Ghibli was working very hard for two drivers so had very little time off the track.

I have to say that whilst I do not want to be the party pooper, in the interests of safety for all attending, I will not condone overly worn tyres at any event I am organising and will ensure the track rules on this matter or any other effecting saftey are strictly enforced by the stewards.

Sorry to be reading the riot act!....Mind you take them to a Rockingham wet handling day and you can't harm anything or anyone and would have a real challenge and learn a lot!

There's a word that I am know off to say in the sanctum of my home. Starting with B, ending in S and with a double LL in the middle.
Thought I'd be able to save the road tyres.
Oh well Loz the roof rack will have to be saved for another day
