A tale of caution for any QP owner. I recently had the AA out to resolve what looked like a simple electrical fault with the immobiliser. My dash lit up like a christmas tree and the navtrack alarm beeped all morning. after having it trailered to the main dealer the result is that water has been gradually seeping into the wiring loom and has shorted a number of the wire bundles. luckily the ECU and the fuse board is dry but there is the risk that the rest of the loom bundle will short. the only recommendation is to replace the wiring loom. which i believe is like rewiring your house.... thanks very much to Noor for his help and advice recently in giving me some alternatives to the main dealer. very helpful indeed!! i have decided to stay with the main dealer as he has given me a huge discount and am hopeful of the loan of something exotic to cheer me up for a few days. the dealer is certainly getting his money from me this year - respray on the insurance due to some low life keying half my car; new tyres all round; major service; probably new pads; and the new wiring loom so...buyer beware - check that your fuse board casing is water tight!!!!!!! yours in poverty.

Hi Scott, I don't get this. Where has the water been seeping in exactly? The fusebox? And how did the water get there?

i wish i knew!! i can only think that water entered through a crack in the rubber surrounding the loom and with the recent cold weather here the water could have frozen and defrosted repeatedly, cracking the covering around the wiring. eventually it then shorted quite a few of the wires.

The water gets in because when the cars are built - at least on some of them - not enough waterproofing mastic is applied where the main wiring loom passes through the bulkhead into the engine bay near the fuse box. It would appear that Maserati are not willing to acknowledge this. My car was under warranty and it has been repaired by the dealership - but my letter of complaint has gone unanswered. Keep an eye out for any sign of water dripping into the car in the area of the pedal box or for damp front footwell mats as the main computer is under the footwell.

Well, that explains why I head issues when Belgium was hit by some heavy rain a couple of months ago. From what I understand, it seems the brain cavity of the Maserati engineers contains that remaining waterproofing mastic they should've applied to isolate the main wiring loom.. Regrettably, the mastic in their brain will prevent them from realizing how annoying that is on a +140.000eur car. And that's just one of the issues. Mine is on sale since recently. I realized that I had, everything taken into account, more issues on my QP V than the Biturbo I owned before. Time to stop this LSD trip... And don't think it's a simple thing to do: Looking around for something fun and exotic... I realize it's very hard to find. After 125 years of car technology the choice I have is either nice and crappy or boring and sturdy... Pffff, anyway, back to the issue at hand...

interestingly someone mentioned to me recently that they thought 2008 reg QPs had been recalled shortly after production for a mastic problem on the loom....anyone able to confirm that ?
