Hi all, I was wondering has anyone ever fitted an X Pipe centre section on their exhaust system? reason for asking is that I have watched some clips on youtube one of the clips below, and what I can see the difference before and after isn't worth the money. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWa88Gm2UEA&feature=related

I have fitted x-pipes to various cars as part of my "day Job". They do work well, not always in an obvious horse power gain, but in terms of response and smoothness of power delivery. The theory is a similar pinciple to the old ford GT40 exhaust system. I.e, the pipes are configured so as the gases of the preceeding firing cylinder "pull out " the gases from the next cylinder in the firing order. An X-pipe works in a similar way. On a "V" configuration engine, there should always be a pull effect in the exhaust system. I dont know what the cost is of the pipe you are looking at, but within reason they are worth considering. Hope this helps.

Hi Andy, Thanks for the information. Regarding the price I think they are just over £300 to purchase, I don't know what the fitting charges would be?

Hi Neilcastle

I no nothing about this subject but you are right about the sound.  As far as I can tell there is no difference.  Perhaps as Andy says there's a power gain.

I have a 2006 QP with Larini back boxes. I later added the X pipes. Larini claim a 17 BHP gain for the rear section and 7 BHP for the X pipes. In July, 2010 I paid £309.76 plus VAT for the X pipes and Emblem Sports Cars of Poole charged 75 plus VAT to fit them. For me the power increase is theoritcal. I was looking for an increase in volume and a more assertive posture.  The primary gain can be attributed to the back boxes.  With the addition of the X pipes the tone deepened. (There is another blue QP on Youtube that has a complete Larini system including sports cats.  The car is owned by Enzo 525 who is a regular contributor on another Maserati forum.)

Maserati is right.....

The standard centre section is a muffled afair so will dampen down the sound. The X Pipe is undampened thus will add volume and deepness to the sound.

Thanks

Noor
