Gents,

Like Klive I needed a minor touch up previously and halfords couldn't match my paint - 2005 Grigio Touring (light silver).... plus i didn't / don't have the piant code under my bonnet for some reason (i've looked 10 times in 10 places and it ain't there!)

does anyone know my paint code??? also, does anyone know where i can get my hands on a small pot of the stuff? I'd like a few touch ups done here and there plus I need to get a washer cap sprayed.....

Cheers, S

nice one Loz - no need to double check on my account  - it's inexplicable to me that my paint code can't be found anywhere...maybe it s cut and shut!

Hello All,

I needed some paint for some small chips on my front bumber. Tried Halfords first thinking that they would be able to mix some but actually said "computer says no"... Then I tried a number of paint shops who said that my colour was a "Special" as it was made up of eight numbers and they could not match it. I contacted Maserati UK who said they dont do paint but could only provide me with the number.

I eventually found Geoff Morton at Carpaint UK through the internet... what a breath of fresh air... although he was 200 miles away.

I asked if he new of Maserati Verdi Mistral, yes he said I know the colour well. I gave him the code anyway 64217100. I'll make you up a 400ml aerosol can and a 1/4 litre tin plus you,ll need a clear a 500ml autmotive lacquer for £30.00. I received the paints and lacquer by 1st class post within 3 days and then arranged for a Senior Paint Shop Technician at Mercedes that I know to do the repair.

The finish is awsome in any light and the chips unidentifiable. Even he could not believe how well the paint had been mixed and matched!

Geoff Morton, Highly Recommended. For anyone who wishes to try him his telephone number is: 07740103894

Also, I have seen a number of posts on here of owners getting prices of up to £500 for a new shiny front grill or talking about rivoting the lower x4 brackets back as they had snapped off... For the record the Front Grille on a 3200GT (dont know about a 4200) is Brass (not cast) meaning it can be stripped of the original fading chrome, welded using brazing rods and polished prior to new chrome being applied.

My Breakdown:

1. Chrome Removed (by the chromers)  £5.00
2. Nasty dent filled in using a brazing rod (brass) £10.00
2. Brass Grill then hand polished to a mirror finish £15.00
3. New Chrome finish £15.00
4. Refitting to Car (5mins) £0.00

Total £45.00

For those logged in... Her is a picture I took just after the Grille had had the old chrome removed.

Hello Safrane,

I took that picture with my mobile phone just after it came out of the stripping solution.

I will get a picture taken of the finished Grille. I always thought that chrome was a standard finish. The "Mirror" finish is only acheived by how well the piece has been polished. The more time spent polishing the higher quality the chrome...
