Hi i have a maserati gt. i adore it. i am having a baby and as such require a 4 door. i have been looking at audi q7, porsche panamera or audi rs6. cant quite decide.. i was explaining how much i love my car but is just not practical with a family.

someone suggested the quatraporte... i think it was a eureka moment!

obv it is 4 door... is it much more spacious? how much bigger is the boot in relation to the GT?

has anyone made a similar change on the back of having a baby? were you satisfied.

my gt just has enough space for the golf clubs... do u think the QP has enough space for golf clubs and pram or will i need to get used to lugging them into the house!

any help would be grately received.

I do not have a family but regularly transport nephews, neices, babies and baby-related paraphernalia and say the QP functions well enough. You could squeeze in a folding pram and golf clubs in the boot.

However I would not for moment imagine it will be as convenient as an Audi Q7 for family duties.

Having said all that, I would certainly keep my QP if I were just about to start a family.

Best of luck in your decision-making!

Hi
I traded my GT for a QP last September because no-one really wanted to travel in the back of the GT! The QP provides a great ride wherever you're sitting, and the performance is still thrilling, so I've no regrets about the change. A set of golf clubs and a folding pram may just fit in the boot but you may have to forego the electric trolley!
Good luck with the search!

The current facelifted models were introduced as 2009 models. The main differences are that the newer models have bigger engine options (4.7), have 1 inch longer nose cones/new headlights, led tail lights and more up to date infotainment systems. Apart from that everything is identical including interior and boot space. Rumour has it that a completely new QP will be released early next year.

I have a QP and a 5 year old daugher.  It handles my small suitcase and all their rubbish with ease!  Its a great family car that DAD actually enjoys driving.

The AUDI - just how much stuff you got?

I too have the QP for family reasons - provides ample accommodation for my 6 and 4 year olds. Over the last 2 years it has always had room for the 4 of us and luggage - including a rather large Stokke push chair at one point. Last year it coped well with a couple of weeks touring in the South of France, with luggage and was able to fit in 60 bottles of wine to bring back.

A couple of words of advice though:

1. You will learn to pack judiciously and this is no bad thing as you will avoid carrying alot of crap around with you
2. A second car (hatch back, estate or 4x4) is useful on occassion for carrying larger or awkward items as the back seats do not fold down and there is no ski tunnel (more than once the wife has had to sit in the back with the kiddies as longer items from hardware shops occupy the passanger seat). Parents or wifes cars are good for this
3. Your family will love the car - my kids when presented with the choice which car we should take - the XC90 (with DVD screens in the back) or the QP, always go for the QP

Do you like your GT? Thing is if you do just buy another car to supplement the GT. I have a 4200GT with a GTS Auto being built to replace it. These cars are fine for day to day use and kids do fit in the back or the front passenger seat if you are not carrying another adult. We have a Discovery3 as family transport. Even if you don't like 4x4s', you could get a nice A6 estate/five series Touring for £20-25k. Not much when considered against the price of a GT.

i love my gt.... but i live in london and train to work....as such 2 cars is a bit excessive.

I would be selling my gt for the QP. I personally think the gt has ample space for a baby in the back...but ive been warned that you shouldnt have 2 door cars with kids as if an accident etc... as such am looking at the QP.

I am going to go and see one in the flesh next week and make a decision. The baby isnt due for another 3 mths.. as such no real rush and im sure i can manage with the GT until the baby is at least 6 mths or so.

Im only 32 as such the JAG XF  ( i think ) is a bit too much of an old mans car for me. I love my maserati so much and whilst i love the look of the QP its not quite as sexy from my initial viewing as the GT.

When our kids were little I had a 911, and we just learnt to pack very efficiently. As soon as they were out of baby seats we managed to go for weekend trips carrying 2 adults and 2 young kids.

Wouldn't want to do that everyday though.

Go for the QP...you won't be disappointed !  I have 2 kids (8 and 5) and they are perfectly happy in the back. They scream a bit when I put my foot down but I think that's with excitement !  Had mine since Feb last year and no regrets despite a recent rather expensive service. Let us know how you get on.

All the best

Or shoes as you end up with marks on the back of the front seats. I also place some towels between the baby seat and leather so no scuff's or indentations occur.
