Righty...so far I've only zip-waxed my GS (mainly out of lazyness).. who details they own car here?

I've got some NXT wax - before I pile in there.. how do you avoid getting it on the window trims\other black bits?

I was thinking of removing the odd tar spot I've picked up, clay baring it & then properly waxing it with the NXT stuff (by hand, I'm not to be trusted with a buffer). Sound good?

Another question.. the leather, bordeaux & of which I have LOTS lol.. it's not especially dirty but it could do with feeding at least on the seats. What do people use? I don't want anything shiny, just back to how it was out the factory.

Cheers
A

Hi fade2grey,
I don't know about the bodywork, I just use standard wax but will be interested to read responses. Regarding the leather, I have used Auto Glym leather cleaner and the Auto Glym leather cream to keep it supple. I have used these for a few years on different cars and they do a great job and they don't make the seats shiny, in fact quite the opposite, they make it more grippy.

Cheers for the info Jezza, would the leather cleaner be alright to use on the dash, headlining, doors etc?

I use Auto Glym leather cleaner for seats dash and doors, best stuff IMO, body work i use Built hamber (Thanks Paco) fantastic stuff, gets rid of all the nasty swirl marks, and does not really matter if you get some on the trim. do a search lots of info on this forum re cleaning/waxing

I use it all over as steve, but not my headlining, alcantara. I think it's especially needed on the dash top and rear shelf because of sun damage/drying out etc. The cream is just as important as the cleaner IMO

Swissvax do a number of products for the plastics, they also prevent wax from sticking to plastic and discoloring it.

I use Gliptone Leather Cleaner and Conditioner.

If you want to do the paint by hand and are going to clay it then try the Meguiars three-step system.

For cleaning the leather and being left with a leather smell, Gliptone is the best you can buy.

With regard to detailing the car, the final result is down to preparation and taking your time. A very basic approach would be:

Wash (ph balanced shampoo)
clay
wash
polish
wax

Depending on the colour of the car also can have a bearing on what you finish off the car with. In my experience if you have a light coloured car you are as well going with something like zaino or carlack, however if the car is dark I always use a carnauba hard wax, you just cannot beat the finish.

With regard to products I use zymol car shampoo, Various polishes for paint correction with a PC. Also use carlack as a sealant and zymol/souveran/victoria concours waxes.

To tape up the car use the blue low tack 3m tape, it does not leave a residue when it is removed.

Depending on how thorough you want to be (without paint correction)

De-greaser under wheel arches and tyres
Acid free wheel cleaner and soft wheel brush
(good rinse)

Snow foam entire car and allow to stand 5 minutes rinse/ power wash off
Wash car using 2 bucket method and a lambswool mitt rinsing each panel as you go. (prefer Megs Gold class shampoo)
If excessive tar then treat with Tardis/ megs body solvent then rinse
Dry using MF towel
Clay (sonus fine green clay) using a 50/50 water/last touch mix
Wash as above
Dry (using mf) after first spraying a light mist of last touch over wet car.
Megs show car glaze
Poorboys ex-p sealant
Dark with paint in A1 condition Vic wax concours
Light car with paint in A1 condition Vic wax collectors
Dark car with swirls Pete's 53
Light car with swirls P21s

If you want to use a harder wax with greater longevity (sp) then collinite or Dodo Juice

Give it 24 hours wipe car down with a caranuba rich detailing spray and put on a second layer of wax.

With a good cleaning regime the wax should last a good 3 months.

Kinell, after that lot I would want it to last 3 years

At least I now know how to really make it shine.

I have used a Swisvax Quick Detail which is similar, but only to sift rain marks and the ocasional splash mark. I wouls always use Water to lift the dirt off if the car needed a 'wash' as anything else will cause micro abrasions and swirling.

I've used it, very pleased:  This is what I posted over at the Alpina forum a while back:  http://www.thealpinaregister.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4815&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=waterless&start=0
"Had my first go today.
It's a bit like using a quick detailer, but the results are a lot nicer.
A decent microfibre towel is important - particularly if the car is quite dirty.
It takes less than half the time to wash the car (no waxing, and no worry about getting it on glass, rubber etc).
No mess, no buckets, no jet wash, no water, no tubs of variuos products and towels all over the place waiting to be used. Just me, two microfibre towels and a spray bottle of Ultra-Ion waterless wash.
The car was quite dirty, as I've just not had the time for it recently, but I'm quite pleased with the results.
I'd describe it as looking like it had had a very good wash, but perhaps in need of a wax? It just appears that the paint would look better with the extra lustre that meg's nxt gen wax would provide.
The only other concern I have is how much I used. I purchased the smallest container and it is now only half full
I'll be interested to see how it does when it rains and also when it needs another wash.
"

It is partciularly excellent on windows too.  As a man that uses the two bucket method most the time it was a bit of departure for me, but I am almost converted nowadays as I don't have the time for my previous efforts that used to take all day!

I have used Showroom Shine first on my wife`s Rav 4 and it was ok. I then tried it on my black GS just a small area to see if it scratched or not. The shine was fantastic, I have used it a few times and every time it gets more of a gloss. It has a silicon resin that protects the surface of the paint so every time you use it it protects more so it takes longer for the dirt to build up. Being a black car I use to get particals of dust after I had cleaned it but with this method the dust is repeled. The shine is like glass everybody that I know asks how I manage to keep it so clean and shiny?

I'v tried this dry wash myself now (tested it on the wife's car first before the maser, no flies on me)

It done a great job, the windows are great, don't get any greasy finger prints from the kids anymore

Used nearly half the bottle, but that coat should last a couple of months.  After I drove to work it was wet so I had dirty splash marks down the sides and back (bloody typical), so I just wiped it with a damp microfibre cloth and then buffed with a clean one.

What I also like is it does slightly blacken the trims and you don't get those white marks from other products on the market. It also stops those overspray marks from using lots of different products for the body, trims, wheels etc

I'm sure I will still use my autoglym from time to time, but this product is good for keeping the car upto date, with a quick wipe over with a damp cloth and buff
