I'm about to replace the rear boxes on my 3200GT and would be grateful for any views. Stainless steel seems favourite with Larini and Quicksilver offering good deals. I'm not looking for anything too noisy and have therefore been advised against Tubi which also seem expensive by comparison.Comments would be very welcome.

I thought about changing the exhausts on my 3200 for quite a few months

Talked to a number of people and exhaust suppliers last year
My conclusion back then was to stick with the originals or should I do this then do it properly and go for the Tubi brand.

Yes, tubis are more expensive but included in the price they will fit them and should they cause problems i.e. your 3200 does not run properly, then a refund is possible. From what I heard no one complained.

There were also a couple of other reasons; warranty should not be effected and it is sold as an option with new Ferraris and Maseratis in the US - therefore recognised and approved.

I learnt from some Maserati specialists that it is not recommended to play around with the exhausts or engine. This is because you could increase the chances of more problems. The engine and exhaust are already thoroughbreds!

ANd I also know a couple of people who purchase the other brands you mentioned and regretted it, they went back to the originals/Tubi. The problems they experiences were not fitting properly, sounded not what they hoped for and very little performance change.

If your budget is tight and prepared to take the plunge then by all means the other brands are very good - (check with your warranty people first) and remember should something go wrong you can't take them back for a refund. You have to pay fitting, including putting the originals back on.

Having said all of that, I am seriously considering Tubis again, let me know if you want to go for a Tubi then I will talk to them to see what deal they could offer for fitting both your 3200 and mine

Welcome Robert.

The age old exhaust question.  Gavin we discussed this at length before, perhaps we could put it in an FAQ section.  Robert if you can find this it was quite detailed and covered 3200 exhausts too.

However I'll give you my own experiences.  Quicksilver did not fit (cat back) despite them sending different exhaust three times and three attempts to fit!  Larini did fit (only just and only after serious serious modification by Bill Mcgrath), however I'm not happy with the finish or the sound.

That being said it is for a Ghibli, which is the Maserati model before the 3200.

Tread carefully and try to have a look at some systems fitted and/or get the maker to fit it.  If it's not to your liking get them to put the original back on!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I have since spoken to a Maserati Specialist who says much the same - ie beware! As I am not looking for more noise but am looking for longevity - their advice is to have the boxes fabricated in stainless steel to exactly match the originals - this they can arrange at a competitive price and if I don't like the result, I can return them.
I shall probably go this route but am going to wait until the Spring - I'll let you know how I get on.
Incidentally, this forum is an excellent idea!
