Hi All,

I'm in the process of having my wheels re-painted to graphite. At the risk of sounding inappropriate I'm also having my nuts painted matte black

What I'm wondering is if anyone can think of a way to re-paint the central cap with the trident on it to matte black but to leave the trident still showing?

you cant do it - well ... and end up with a decent result.

I 've had this conversation with ross packard.

you have to order the centre cap from the dealer - no biggie - its 13 quid plus vat.

Hi Stu, Emtee here. How are you? I'm going for it also! Spent the last couple of weeks checking the options and have settled on The Wheel Specialists here in Blighty. I'm not going to try to exactly match the Graphite (I'm not really certain it's actually possible), but instead go with an anthracite with a flake over-lacquer.

I'm not sure whether you'll ever really match the centre caps, even if you do order the 'graphite' caps, they're spray painted plastic after all. Ask whoever's doing your wheels to match the caps for you. They should have a matching spray to go with their wheel colour options. The caps can be masked with masking fluid, but it's a fiddly job. What colour are your cap tridents? Mine are graphite so it's a bit of a no-brainer. I'm going to get them sprayed and then, before lacquering, scrape the surface of the trident logo with a razor blade and then have them lacquered.

Post some piccies when they're done?

Cheers, Miles.

Oh, and if you think painting your nuts is dodgy, try chroming them!

Thanks a lot for your replies, gents. I didn't know there were caps available in other colours. I'm doing it all back-to-front then as the wheels are already in the process of being painted and I think it's too late to ask them to wait while I get some new centre-caps and then match the colour to the new caps.

I guess all I can do now is ask the company that's re-painting the wheels to also have a try at painting the caps, in fact they had already considered this issue when looking at the job as a whole but when I asked them, I got the feeling they were going to just spray them and I'd lose the centre tridents.

The guy who is doing this for me is the Ferrari/Maser official detailer here in Budapest and he really knows his stuff. He may not have known about the different colour caps available for sale though so I'll ask him about this on Monday.

I'm having the grill re-done at present, meaning new grill mesh to replace the existing chicken wire and having the surround re-chromed. The chroming person said that chromed nuts would still flake when using a wheel brace on them but if it's only twice a year that the wheels are removed (for the summer/winter tyre swap) then they should be okay for a couple of years at least, right?

As soon as I have pics I'll post them for sure. Thanks again, chaps.
