Yep good fun. Thanks Malcolm!
Never seen the track so empty, felt like I was going round on my own most of the time.
Very greasy, which is interesting when you have no weight over the rear wheels and no traction control (other than the right foot!). Went out with an instructor who was very nervous about the conditions and lack of any safety aids - "don't put your foot down until you are going straight after the chicane" he said.
After spinning up the rears in second, I tired third with the same result - this is a four speed automatic remember!
These wet days are certianly much more enjoyable after you've had some wet handling training.

Thanks Malcolm.

Really good day, shame about the morning, but me and Niki really had a good time strange going round and round without seeing any cars.

Thanks for the invite, nice to meet you all and to be made very welcome.

Chris

With so few cars on the track it gave plenty of time to learn and develop the best line to get the car round smoothly. We had a few "moments" but nothing that the car didn't sort out before it all went wrong. (I'd like to say that I sorted out but wouldn't that be too modest).
The instructor certainly helped as it would of taken a long time to realise that driving wide of the first apex at Madgwick was a better line, although in the late afternoon with the sun setting over that corner it did become a bit hairy. I've made some notes for if there's a next time.
It was a shame about the M3 event but pleasing that both driver and passenger were unhurt.
I can't praise Myles (Emblem) enough. For him to be there all day offering advise, assistance and some necessary maintenance to various people I'm sure was very appreciated. He gave me some interesting news about clutch wear. (See seperate post.)
And finally, great stuff Maclolm, keep 'em' coming.

Great day thanks malc. Really started getting into it in the afternoon though after chatting to myles and jezza I do think I need new tyres! Matt sorry I didn't realise you were there. "Which one were you"? Instuctor was fab and made it easy to progress while enjoying every minute. shame about the totalled m3 but serves as a warning I guess. Thanks again all. Andy

Andy, I wasn't there, I live close to the circuit....so close in fact, Jezza popped down to see me to pick up his FD pads which have been sat on my desk for weeks.

Heard about the crashed car, nasty, that's why I dont do tracks. The rain did ease after lunch.

Great to hear all seemed to have had a good day,     by the sounds of it  you had all weather conditions bar snow and ice , so most were tested and honed / adapted there skills accordingly and hopefully learn't  some new ones ,

Might sound a bit morbid , but interested know the full sp for future reference  on the M3 incident  where id it happen  and why    was it down to extreme weather conditions, or driver error     saving grace  no one was hurt

Look forward to the next one  hopefully spring or summer this time eh Malc  November is mighty unpredictable weather wise

regards loz

Seeing as the owner is on the forum, only fair to let him speak for himself.

It seems everyone got something out of the day, with perhaps one exception....no injury thank god! A wet track is nervewracking at best, but it is an opprotunity to learn more about both your own and the cars abilities.

As most know the Ghibli and the TVR have no driver aids and both were tonking around safely, although pushed to the limits in the conditions.

For my part I can't recomend the benefits of the wet handling days at the Rockingham facility....Richard and I have atttended two of these now, once with the Ghibli and once with the Spyder and Rich's Merc. Whereas I come away thinking wow that is extreme and I can't control the beast, What was it about? I do in fact gain ability and knowledge each time which has helped with the unexpected on the roads and certainly helped on the track yesterday.

I had some laps with John (chief Steward and instructor) yesterday and admittedly he was looking for something to hold onto as we had a few Ghibli sideways moments pushing it but he coached me into better approaches smother turns and better exits all very important in the wet and very beneficial indeed

As most of you know I would rather be driving my cars than polishing them, mechanically sound (thanks Emblem!) vut not lookers and I have realised that I am more than half way through my driving career and certainly my performance years! I feel that it is important with performance cars to gain instruction on the cars abilities and our own rather than "tootle along at 30mph" only then do we have control on the missile....anyway I am rambling now!

A number of the guys yesterday have expressed a strong interest in another day and Goodwood have offered me a choice of Thursdays in March and will sort a good rate out for us......I will place another Thread for that.....

Maybe we should have a forum wet handling day at Rockingham or join forces with the Alpina forum....also another thread.

Many thanks to all who attended yesterday and comiserations to those who couldn't but wanted to.

Really niice to meet up trackside..............

Hi All,

Thanks for letting me take Lewis' spot yesterday, had a great time despite the weather!

As Chris says, I don't think I've ever been on such a quiet trackday, but great to meet new faces from another marque :)

It would be rude and very remiss not to thank Emblem for their support, well done Myles!
