Yep, I agree, I thought it was a little low when I got it (lowered nearly 30mm from stock) but now I think it's just right. When I get a moment I will post a proper report on how the car feels etc.

After an exciting spirited drive (thank you Peter) from Dick Lovetts Swindon to Bristol , yet again,  was well impressed with Pats (Maser sods) Rami ghibli GS , once again it looks stunning in the flesh, and now  that he has completed the mods , the cars ride height looks spot on , Mean and agressive from side view  and the wheels fit those arches    perfectly , without compromising ride comfort , Exhaust mods have  achieved  what he set out to do producing a mild fezza scream from around 3000rpm  but quietish  below that,  personally i would want a bit more noise all round  but then its a personal thing.

Must say as a passengers prospective, FD  ecu and dbw   were barely noticable  and im coming from 4200 experience  rather than GS, which i am surprised about   to be honest i was expecting more  , so i will reserve judgement   for a while and withdraw from the FD group buy      and wait untill i have completed
Lowering and exhaust mods of my own GS and   maybe wait and see what others have to say ,

Nice one Pat   thanks for the insight

regards loz

Odd to hear that Loz, the DBW+ECM made a huge difference in torque and peak power, making the car much more rev happy. But it does take a 100 miles or so for everything to bed in and the ECU to get to work effectively.

Not really had time to put in a full reply until now (busy at work etc).

First things first, the car is where I want it now in terms of handling and performance. It's not a night-and-day change, but I'd say it's around 7-10% up on where it was before, which matches the money spent on the FD and exhaust mods and probably what you might see in terms of torque and HP improvement if you were to stick it on a rolling road.

The changes to the suspension - lowering and springs - makes the car a bit taughter in my view. This is without much cost to the ride, which isn't noticeably harder.

The car seems a bit freer revving, esp in the 2.5 - 3.5K rev range. I don't think you can expect a night-and-day change here when the stock version of the car is already 400bhp and 333 ft/lbs of torque. I'm happy enough.

The DBW seems to make the throttle more responsive but not massively so. I have learned from Loz and Matt (Conaero) that there are a variety of settings for the DBW: valet, bypass, aggressive and more aggressive. I knew about the valet setting from the website but I was not aware that you could have different levels of aggressiveness. I am not sure which mine has come with, I am guessing it is 'Aggressive' and 'Bypass'. I am fine with it, it is not too twitchy and is better than before.

I am not exactly sure how the DBW is meant to alter the gear changes. The thing I have noticed most is that it makes the car change down later when you do not change down yourself (probably a benefit in town driving, as pointed out by Loz). The upchange in Sport Mode is as I want it, the upchange in Normal mode is slightly improved but still a bit too slushy to make me want to drive in Normal mode frequently. I see this as a drawback of the original Maserati s/w.

The exhaust note is actually a bit too quiet still. I had asked ProSpeed to keep the noise down and they did too good a job! I don't want to wake my neighbours with my early starts so I'm not too concerned there. Loz and co were able to hear me coming from about half a mile away so it can't be too bad I guess.

Anyway, to sum up, I'm happy with what I have. I don't have a raw, overly aggressive sports car which is tiring to drive, what I do have is a GranSport which has been hardened a little and is where I want it now, both cosmetically and in terms of performance. The only enhancement I would have liked is swifter gear changes in Normal mode, but then I haven't bought anything which explicitly offers this so I can't be too disappointed.

Another thing to add:
I probably should have let Loz and Matt have a drive of the car themselves, as this would be the best way to get familiar with the DBW enhancement. Also, with 1 person in the car rather than 2, the car is going to feel a little more agile. But it was getting dark and the roads were a little greasy. Maybe less time in the curry house next time!
Good to see Loz, Pete and Sophie again, and to meet Matt for the first time after various cyber-conversations on Alfa and Maserati forums.
Shame we didn't catch Lewis (Marcos) or Harey, but this gathering was all arranged at very short notice.

Good to hear the feedback! Looks like you are very happy with the car, which is the most important thing of all!

Perhaps the ECM/DBW mode is not in the more aggressive setting... I've sent an email to help you with this and feel free to get in touch if you need assistance.

I do know that from a passenger perspective it is quite difficult to guage the difference especially if you're not comparing the car with the unit bypassed and then active. I've tried to demo to customers in the US this way and once they drove the car, it was a different response altogether from sitting in the passenger seat. Certainly if you put the bypass clips in and drive the car and then connect the DBW/ECM in the aggressive setting you really must be able to feel the differences.

Best Regards,
-- Jeff

MaserSod is traveling at the moment. However before leaving he's emailed me and said that he found that the system was not in the aggressive mode. He did switch it over and reported that there was a good bit of difference. He's said that once he returns, he'll update us with that experience as well.

Best Regards,
-- Jeff

Hi there,

I'm back in the UK (briefly). Yes, it seems that the DBW modules was in 'aggressive' rather than 'very aggressive' move. I had mistakenly thought that the switch was an on/off switch rather than an on/more on switch. The throttle response is pretty much instant in this mode. Not too sensitive, mind you. I was happy enough with aggressive mode but I think I will keep it in the more aggressive mode for that added edge.

Hope to give the car another drive tomorrow before heading out of UK again.

Just ordered a Kia as a runaround by the way, road tax = 35GBP. That made me laugh! Less than a tenth of the road tax for a maser

Cheers,

Pat
