this statement hits the nail on the head. I considered buying P68 BPR having viewed it a few months ago. But what really put me off was the grumbling suspicion that the value of Ghiblis in general is about to fall through the floor.
J.

They have already fallen through the floor! The trouble is that some owners don't want to believe that a maserati can be worth peanuts and try to flog bum cars at inflated prices.
I've Ghibli's sell from 3k upwards.  So people asking the kind of money we have seen above and yet can't even be bothered to service the car once in 4 years......living on a different planet, it makes cars that were at one point good cars, go down the pan!

Keep looking Dicky, and good luck.

Hi Graham!

Nice to see you here again! How's the rebuild going?

sorry this is a bit off topic-

That's a very interesting comment about the 456- I've thought about one a couple of times- but if you ever look at the quoted workshop menu costs in the independant speciality-garage adverts in Auto Italia you can see the reason why the big front engined 12-cylinder Ferraris drop like a stone from £170K to £25K inside ten years-

Engine servicing costs- the I think the 456 is among the top three most expensive of the "red-cars" to maintain becuase of the number of cylinders...

I remember reading a hilarious detail in a write-up by a guy in EVO magazine some years ago who bought a knock-down 550 Maranello- He was driving it back from buying it and the fuel light came on so he pulled into a gas station and filled it right-up; £90 "wow!" he thought chuckling and drove off.
Three days of toy-driving later the fuel light came back on!! Somewhat less amusing.

I've always thought the 456's are interesting as they are "our" generation of car, on the other side of the fence- you know what I mean...?

Hi Jim

This spring I have bought a 550 in addition to my Ghibli and my Biturbo S.
If you are able to service the cars yourself, the service costs are not really higher for the 12 cylinders as for a Ghibli or 3200. Some parts are much less expensive as Maserati takes for the same parts. The site of Eurospares makes all the spare prices really "transparent".

Fuel consume at the 12 cylinder is a problem. This is right.
:)
Mixed use of a 550, minimum 22 up to 30 liter per kilometer , the Ghibli takes 12 liter up to 18 liter per 100 km.
485 horses needs food. ;)

The 550 with the Ghibli is a really perfect combination, i will not miss both of them.

Back to Ghibli, really good cars are rare and in fixed hands of real enthusiasts. I have also a red Series 1 (360609) for restauration and a rosso oriente Series 2 (360909) with a broken timing belt clamp. Both are not in that condition as my silver 360885, that i own since 1999 as 2nd owner. The black Series 1 (360520) i have stripped to chassis is in such bad condition (rust), that the car is only good for parts, a restoration of the chassis ist not worthwhile.

Now for sale with a dealer, coming down in price.  It actually looks really nice now, wonder if they've fixed everything?

(I'm not stalking this car by the way, I just like to keep an eye on the market and it keeps cropping up)

Ominously though, no picture of it front on!

I can't remember from that list- does it have the cracked passenger headlight issue and they are trying to hide it...?

Certainly cleans up nice though- a lovely colour...

I was thinking the same, it was the driver's side headlamp that was badly cracked, I think you can just about see it on the last photo.  Looks like the bootlid has been rectified though

The Driver's Side- yes you're right!

How unusual- it's usually the passenger side on RHD...

Given the history and documented interest- they'd be better off posting some underbody pictures to rest people's concerns...
