Hi

After a few months of it being parked in my workshop, my Ghibli finally made its way back to the top of the list for attention. I have revisited the rear hub and found that all I needed to do was to insert a spacer behind the inner bearing in order to get the required clearance, so no need for a replacement swinging arm - or at least I hope so.

I removed the diff, because I thought that it had a binding bearing, but it all seemed ok, so I put it back.

I have found a set of wheels for it at last. Not original, but Maserati branded, so I'll settle for that. I was unable to source any good original 7 spoke wheels without paying silly money.

The wheels are currently in the tyre shop having new rim sealant, valves and balancing.

I've still to find the right door glass without paying a fortune for it, and I still have defective wipers, but I am getting there.

Incidentally, I have had to move the Ghibli out of and back in to the workshop many times, and it has always started first time!

If you can help me with parts, please contact me.

The wheels really look good on the car. I was told that they were from an early Quattroporte and they needed a little fettling to fit, but nothing outside of what I am capable. The rear wheels have slightly less offset than the Ghibli originals, so I could add spacers if needed. Hubcentric ones are availble, but they are not at the top of my shopping list.

Of the original set, one rear wheel and one front wheel are good, so I'll keep them, to trade, or in case I find another front and rear wheel, which will mean that I can revert to original wheels for that all important concours event

Whist I was fitting the wheels, a man stopped just outside my workshop to ask for directions to the local nut and bolt seller. He looked at the Ghibli and said "I have one of those, but a later model". He went on to tell me that he took it as a trade in but now it wouldn't start, so would I be interested in it. I answered in the affirmative. He said that he would swing by the next day when he had more time to chat. Guess what? That was 2 weeks ago and he never returned. Some people...

This Ghibli is still in my workshop and gets moved in an out from time to time. Every time it starts first time and bursts into life with what is becoming a familiar and much loved (by me) sonerous tone. However, I still don't have the driver's drop glass (no thanks to Charlie the tw*t, who keeps on telling me that he has one, but not yet because the car is outside and he doesn't want the inside to get wet even though he is going to break the car - and he never calls me back). .. and no thanks to anyone else either, because I know that there are parts out there. So, no photos until the Ghibli is back on the road. I still need the glass, the wiper motor, the MoT test and the VIC test before then, so you'll all just have to wait.

Today I cleaned out the broken glass from the bottom of the driver's door, cleared the glass fragments from the window channels and fitted the replacement glass. Then I fitted the driver's door mirror, so the next step is to get the electrics sorted and then put back all of the trim. Nearly there. Duncan

I replaced the wiper motor with one which I bought from David Askew. The job looks difficult at first, but the motor can be replaced with the mechanism in place. make sure that you set the new motor to its parked position before fitting it.

The electric windows had been integrated into the immobiliser (which I discarded as my first job), so I had to rewire to original spec to get them working.

Just the trim to replace and then off for an MoT.
