Guys,
update for you.
With Pirelli changing the treadwear rating from 220 to 140 my mileage on rear 19'' tyres went from 12-15k to 3k. I replaced them with Bridgestones with 140 rating and got 5-6k miles. I have now fitted Michelin Pilots with 220 rating and having returned from a trip to France have covered 4k miles with minimal wear. So I am hoping to get back to the original 12-15k if not better it.
Clearly you could go too far and end up with no grip, but I have not felt any difference in dry or wet ( in both cold Scotland and very hot France) using the above ratings ,so my advice is to stick with something upwards of 200 if you want any more than 6k miles out of them. Pressures and tracking will obviously have an impact but unless they are well out its the treadwear rate that determines the mileage.
Hope this saves somebody some wasted cash.

Hi Alan,

Have Pirelli definitely stopped making the 220 rating for the PZeros? I ask because I bought a set of 20 inch rears with 220 treadwear only in April...

Thanks

I have just been to a Pirelli performance tyre specialist today and the 220 tread wear rating tyre shows up on their system as delisted.

They say that only the 160 is now available but not only that they said that Pirelli had actually recalled some Ferrari fitments from the distribution chain because they were lasting too long and had replaced them with lower tread wear rated tyres! Don't know whether this is true but it suggests a systematic policy by Pirelli to take the p**s out of their customers.

My last set were fitted by a Maserati main dealer and I hadn't noticed (and they didn't volunteer) that they were 160 treadwear. As reported by others above I've only had 5,000 out of the rears and they are gone compared to 14,000 out of the OE tyres. I've found another Maserati main dealer who has 220 rated tyres in stock (at a price!) and I've booked in to have a new set.

On another note Vredenstein are apparently releasing a winter tyre fitment before Christmas for the Quattroporte 20" wheels which is good news if only I could find a set of spare wheels...

Wow, this seems to be the killer issue in running QP V as daily driver. Using 2-3 sets of rears each year sounds expensive, inconvenient and (potentially) hazourdous to the beautiful alloys.
Off out to check the treadwear rating on my recent 3200 tyres.

Craig,

Have a look at Enzo's comments and excellent photopgraphs on page 1 of this thread.
