Thank you for your fast responses. All the posts here are very valuable to me.
Yes - I actually meant the clutch... I tested the car today and it felt great and looks good. The seller said the clutch has been changed on this 2005 DuoSelect/50.000 km car but he couldn't tell me exactly when, will look into this later. My old car is a Peugeot 607 V6 with a automatic/tiptronic transmission. In the first gear the tested QP had some slight rubbing when accelarating, it's not as smooth as the 607 one, but from the 2nd gear the car feels absolutely great, and YES it is much better in manual with the paddles and Sport Mode. How can you find out about the clutch wear %, does it have to connected to the dealer's diagnostic equipment ?
The infotainment could look a little more classy to my taste, but it is 5 years old... The CD changer wasn't working correctly but it should be fixed if I buy the car. I need to get some newer CDs for the Navigation, the ones in the car are from 2007, I hope that's not a problem. Does anyone know how to get them ?

Ha had a 3.0 V6 607 too...lost 15k on that in 3 years and moved to my 4200. You can get up-dated DVD's for the sat nav from main-dealers, Eurospares, or even NavTec.

Darius,

If the clutch was replaced under warranty there may not be accompanying paperwork with the car in which case enquiries will be needed to establish what was done and when.  Following introduction of the QP V in 2004 there were subsequent software and hardware revisions to prolong clutch life. Incidentally nineteen inch wheels were also introduced.  The Duo Select gearbox has not suffered problems with durability. However, the system has received mixed reviews in the motoring press.  Personally I have enjoyed learning to use the F1 paddle shift effectively. As an enthusiast this continues to be an involving and rewarding experience.  The automatic function however in my opinion is simply not as good as a conventional automatic gearbox with torque convertor.  Maserati have in recent years chosen ZF automatic gearboxes.  ZF are also the current  supplier for Jaguar cars. These have a very good reputation and require very little by way of maintenance.  If the sporty Duo Select paddle shift agrees with you then this could be a good choice. However, if most of your driving is likely to be in automatic mode then the more expensive ZF route would appear to be a more favourable option. Good luck with your purchase.

Regards,

Paul

You can buy the Nav DVD's direct from Blaupunkt, about £130 I seem to remember.

Just be aware, if there is a problem with the CD changer make sure its fixed before you buy the car. If the CD changer isn't working then it could actually be due to a problem with the NIT module which is a pricey component. (the NIT is the central component that connects the phone/nav/cd changer etc).
