Note to Hopefully...You are on a road to no-where my friend. Better to just accept that oil is just oil, it will either work or it wont. There is no right or wrong answer.

Engines are known to have failed on 3200s and whether these failures are down to using the incorrect oil or not is another can of worms, probably the best way to avoid a failure is to stay with manufacturers specified oil, but if you want to take a chance and put in something other that's your choice it is a free country we live in after all.
I don't think I would chance it if the specified oil is readily available personally, good luck with whatever you choose...................................

Ok chaps, thanks Mark, I have ordered some Selenia R from shop4parts, just so that I have it in as back-up. All the comments have been great and I respect all of them. We probably have all learned a few things and that's what it's all about.
I will probably do a few trials on oil, if it sounds rubbish after a change, I will change it to something else. I will always choose a higher specification if I can, whilst staying with the basic overall specs as the bottom line. So long as the 10w-60 is maintained for the heat etc, the oil should perform well.
The choice is yours gentlemen at the end of the day, if a super oil comes on the market at a special offer price, grab it if the specs are right and you will be OK.
I would think any engine failure is down to neglect of some description. I have had diesels up to 250,000 miles and petrol up to 160,000 and still running well. Good care and attention is worth the effort and is cost effective long term.

Cheers
Robert

Full Maserati Service history - presumably only ever had Selenia R - so why am I now waiting to get mine back from it's second bottom end rebuild after just 55k miles?
It's even an Auto which are perceived to be a little bit kinder to engines
