What works best for paintwork on these cars?
my black 3200 looks great for an hour after I wash it, but dirt builds up after the first trip out.

Was considering getting an expensive £300-500 professional treatment (carnauba wax).

Followed a sponsored link from gmail to this PTFE based product. Seems easy to apply and long lasting. and costs about £50.
Anyone tried it ?

I haven't tried it but I know of similar methods, a company near me does aircraft valeting and they have a license for a teflon based treatment, it seems to work well on cars.

I can highly recommend Bilt-hamber auto-clay and balm, the clay will really surprise you at how much crud comes out of your paint, I used to have a black Saab 9-5 and the clay followed by the balm gave it that "wet" look - the paint was like glass.

The balm is excellent at hiding small scratches too, but it doesn't last forever if your lives outside or is used a lot. Still lasts longer than Autoglym though, and is easier to use.

I use the meguiar's clay and quick detailer, works a treat.  The quick detailer is great for giving a 5 minute once over between waxes too.  Saves you having the rewash the car after you've been out for a short drive.
The wax is great, no chalk dust at all.  Short of paying zymol of swissol prices the stuff is the best value for money i can find.
The other thing i have to advocate is at least the two bucket technique and preferably that along with a lamb’s wool wash mitt.

Sad I know

I use Zymol titanium Wax, it takes a bit of getting used to with the application by fingertips, but it's worth it as my car sits outside and doesn't get used as much as I'd like, but when the weekends come, it's bright as a button with a quick jet wash. £67 a tub for this stuff, but it's the best i've found and it lasts much longer so it's actually good value for money. I've tried all sorts in the past from Mer to autoglym polish and shine protector, but this stuff is much tougher... take care when using it though, don't let it dry or you are in for a hell of a job.

It's only downside is the fingertip application, people think you are mad, it's like a full body massage for a car!

Was thinking of getting the same, even though it is hand application.
Saw this in classic car mag - £19.95 for auto-clay and auto-balm. Sound like similar system to zymol/swissol/meguiars.
Will order tuesday and let you know results. ( 01277 658899 )

Best thing I've found by far is autoglym "machine clean"
Here are the steps:

Cover electrics (clingfilm?)
Spray on "Machine Clean"
Agitate with a old brush
Rinse off - compressed sprayer, the kind you use for applying weed killer or lawn grow works great.  About £25 from homebase, also good for washing the salt away after a drive or cleaning the car during a hose pipe ban!
Spray the entire ebay bay with autoglym "vinyl and rubber care", don't touch it, just close and wait about 24 hours to dry.

Open and look how beautiful it appears :)

Rob - see my post above - this stuff is excellent - here's a couple of pics of my Saab after a quick once-over.  The car had over 100k motorway miles and the paint felt like a Brillo pad before I clayed it! Felt like glass after.

I have to admit that I'm quite taken in with this website and it's products.  The auto-balm looks good too.  There own experiments seem to suggest it holds out better against the elements, but i guess they would.  I'm a long way from running out of megiaurs, but these guys may be worth a go.

I think I will order some to....reading how to use it I think you need to plan to take a hole day out to get it done if you auto-clay and auto-balm.
