Most companies will insure you for 12 months and you can cancel the insurance anytime, with them refunding the balance to you. Is there really any "non-refundable" 12-months insurance? What if you sell your car earlier? Try just any insurance company, get a 12 month policy and cancel it when you don't need it anymore, they will charge you some little admin fee and return the money for any unused time. Just do a search on Meerkat or other confused.com, call the cheapest company and what happens when you pay in full for 12 months and you sell your car / move abroad say after 6 months, how do they refund the money for the unused 6 months.
