Been driving my car quite a bit and have her down in London just now

Had the following problem since I bought her and looking for advice or views:

I have fond that under hard acceleration that the car seems short of fuel immediately after for a short period
I have changed the fuel regulator as I had a spare one and also increased the pressure about a turn
the fuel filter in it is clean
I can't see any in line filter between the tank and the pump
Possible causes:
dirt in the petrol tank clogging the filter under hard use
weak fuel pump
insufficient pressure in regulator
Or?????????

Anyone had similar experience? If so what was the cause and cure?

Can you remove the in tank filter without dropping the tank? Scared to slacken the bolt in case cant remove filter and the have to drop tank to replace fibre or copper washer

Again any advice?

Put a new radio in the car today and found the vacuum pipes to the fresh/rc switch plugged off. What were the vacuum pipes used for? odd way to operate a switch? was this standard on euro cars?

hope someone can answer some of these questions!
